Thierry Mugler Les Exceptions: Redefining the Fragrance Buying Experience

When you think of Thierry Mugler fragrances, you probably think of two words: Angel and Alien – the uber-iconic scents that most beauty-savvy fashionistas have on regular rotation. But what about the exceptions to this rule? Or rather, Les Exceptions (see what we did there?). Five unisex, luxury fragrances by Mugler, just released this Fall. The Les Exceptions collection – which blends original alchemies with unique and exceptional ingredients – captures Mugler’s visionary and sensual approach to the art of perfumery.

MUGLER Les Exceptions Fragrance Collection

So what does this mean for local fashionistas? Mugler chose Chicago to be the first and only city in the U.S. to indulge in a luxurious, white glove (or in this case, black glove) experience when purchasing one of his Les Exceptions fragrances – an exclusive to Nordstrom on Michigan Ave.

Two Local Spots Redefining the Spa Experience

We’re noticing a trend in Chicago. Spas inside of salons as well as some other unexpected places. Nowadays, it’s not uncommon for you to get a massage and facial immediately following a blowout or even a teeth cleaning. Recently, Rita and I paid a visit to two multi-purpose establishments that are redefining the spa experience. Not only do they focus on wellness and relaxation, but they also cater to our cosmetic needs. How’s that for killing two birds with one stone?

SONY DSC

“With the brisk Fall weather beginning to settle in, there’s nothing we want to do more than stay inside to cozy up with our favorite blanket and ever-so-long queue of NetFlix movies. However, I’ve found four reasons why rolling out of the bed to brave the cold and shop The 900 Shops this season is not such a bad idea.”

Design School(ed) with Azeeza Khan of Atelier AZZA

schooled (sko͞old):
Educated or trained in a specific activity or in a particular way.

Today, we are excited to announce the launch of Design School(ed), a series of videos focusing on emerging talent and designers making major moves in the fashion community. Our first set of videos, which is a trilogy of sorts, will feature interviews conducted by our guest correspondent, Kari Herrera of Chicagoings. Designers will drop knowledge on a myriad of topics, including their design process, lessons learned from Project Runway and what inspires them.

First up is Azeeza Khan of Atelier AZZA. Enjoy!

Design School(ed) with Azeeza Khan of Atelier AZZA

For this installment of Design School(ed), our guest correspondent, Kari Herrera of Chicagoings.com, sits down with Azeeza Khan of Atelier AZZA to discuss everything from her new Magnificent Mile digs in The Shops at North Bridge (520 N. Michigan Ave) to the key attributes of the “AZZA girl”. Our mighty curveball, known as the “ChiTown Shakedown”, reveals Azeeza’s favorite pizza place, which baseball team she roots for, and one of her current favorite dishes (which involves Ruffle chips, by the way).

Watch as we gain more insight into the world of Atelier AZZA and get personal with the woman behind all those Swarovski embellished dresses and accessories that Chicago (and the world) has grown to love.

Friday Find: Parrot Shoe by L.K. Bennett + Caroline Issa [UPDATED]

Friday Find showcases the item ChiTown Fashionista has become smitten with during the current week. Plus, what better way to start the weekend than with a bit of impulse shopping? It’s been a long week, you’ve earned it.

UPDATE: After speaking with my favorite salesgirl, Holly, I learned that since the L.K. Bennett + Caroline Issa collection is so exclusive, the 900 N. Michigan location only has a few things in store. Unfortunately, the Parrot shoe is not one of them. It is still worth a trip to the store to check out what they do have, view the entire lookbook and place an order for whatever your heart desires, Parrot shoe included.

The Choosie Awards: Best Place to Shop in 2013

Burberry Chicago flagship

“Shoppers, the Choosie Awards did not forget about you. Retailers and high-end designers seem to be having a love affair with Chicago as of late – and of course we don’t blame them. Here are the shops that will have you emptying your wallets and smashing the piggy bank in 2013. “

I was given the task of nominating the stores I believe will be the top shopping destinations in 2013. Click HERE to view the nominees and find out which one I selected as the winner!

I must give honorable mention to the soon-to-come Lanvin, Tom Ford and YSL stores. They were strong contenders that simply didn’t make the cut. Are there any others you would add to the list?

Rita Recap: Birchbox Blogger Breakfast + Giveaway!

Last week the lovely ladies of Birchbox made their way to Chicago for a couple of beauty events, including a blogger breakfast at the magnificent NoMI Kitchen here in Chicago. I had the pleasure of attending said breakfast and let me tell you, sipping on bellinis and chatting it up with fellow Chicago bloggers was a nice change of pace from my usual Wednesday morning routine, otherwise known as “coffee in a cubicle.”

For those of you who don’t know, Birchbox is a monthly subscription. Each month an adorable pink box is mailed to your doorstep with 5-7 deluxe sized beauty samples for a mere $10. Having personally been subscribed to Birchbox for well over a year, I can attest to receiving brands such as NARS, Stila, Zoya, and Laura Geller (including a full sized blush worth $30!), just to name a few. Birchbox is the perfect way to discover new beauty products to fall in love with. Plus, who wouldn’t love a little present delivered to their door every month?

Once I walked through the entrance of the Park Hyatt on Michigan ave, took the elevator to the 7th floor, and entered NoMI Kitchen, it was no surprise to me why this place has such rave reviews. I was greeted by an enthusiastic hostess and lead to the back of the restaurant where a long elegant table was set for 20 or so. Each place setting had a signature Birchbox tied with a black ribbon. In addition to the boxes, the table was lined with beautiful “Birchbox pink” flowers that added to the overall beauty of the dining room.

Just outside the dining room was an open space where the bloggers were mingling before breakfast. After taking in the stunning view of the historic Chicago Water Tower and browsing some of the latest Birchbox products, we sat down and continued to talk amongst ourselves as we chose from a menu of delicious breakfast options and passed around pastries. I soon came to realize that Birchbox team members were also seated around the table. I had the pleasure of sitting next to Alta Sparling, Brand Relationship Manager for Birchbox. We had a lovely conversation throughout our meal about my experience with Birchbox. I appreciated Alta asking me several questions regarding my feelings on Birchbox as a company and my ideas on how Birchbox could improve moving forward.
