Brows and Spring Makeup Trends with Sabrina of Beauty Babe

Spring is finally upon us (although you wouldn’t know it after yesterday’s snow storm). That means it’s time to thaw out your frozen face and get it ready for the warmer temperatures and all the new beauty trends that come with the change of season.

But where should you start?! If you’re in Chicago, that’s a no brainer.  Our new favorite go-to for all things eyebrows is Agnes O. Salon and Derma Spa (21 W. Elm Street) in the Gold Coast, where Sabrina Danyla of Beauty Babe is the resident brow magician and makeup artist.

Beauty Tips (and a Makeover Session) with EcoTools

EcoTools Collage Final

Want to know how to impress a beauty blogger? Give her a full day of beauty tips and makeover sessions with EcoTools.

Let’s break down the long day of fun and fabulousness, shall we?

Upon entering the magnificent space (check out this photo captured by Laurie of 312Beauty, to see what I mean), we were greeted with a layout of EcoTools entire makeup brush line. Although my face conveys otherwise (sorry, I am NOT a morning person), I couldn’t wait to try them out!

2014-04-25 09.26.10

After a lovely breakfast, we were separated into small groups. My group headed to the first stop of the day, the Spa & Lash station with the lovely (and fellow Chicagoan), Carly Cristman.

Confession: I have never applied or worn lashes before, but I have to say, it wasn’t as scary as I imagined it.

Beauty, Fashion and Fun: Recapping the VMAs Viewing Party

DISCLOSURE: This post is sponsored by COVERGIRL. All opinions and ramblings are my own.

The VMAs came and went, and boy did I have a wonderful time watching them this year!

As you know, I partnered with COVERGIRL to host a a Chicago-style VMAs viewing party for a few friends.  So, let’s get to some of the high points of the night.

The Spread

My crew, who I officially deemed as my (VM)A-Team, helped me to bring the Chicago-centric menu to life! Berco’s and Garrett popcorn in apothecary jars (with printed paper cones for serving), mini Chicago-style hot dogs beautifully stacked alongside mini condiments, Harold’s Chicken on a fanciful dish and Ferro’s Italian ice in colorful dessert glasses. Our resident mixologist decided to round out the menu with a mind-blowing cocktail that included white grape juice + Chicago’s own Next Star vodka, topped with sparkling Chardonnay white grape juice and served over frozen, sugar-coated champagne grapes. Needless to say, the drink was a hit and kept the party going through the night.

This Sunday, I will be hosting an intimate VMAs viewing party for a few of my favorite girls. We will be tweeting and chatting about our favorite red carpet looks and performances of the night, all while indulging in Chicago-centric food and getting glammed up by one of the best makeup artists in the industry, Chicago’s own Andrea Samuels. Oh yes! We’re taking the “girl’s night in” concept to new levels.

Rita Recap: Bobbi Brown Makeup Party!

Last week I had the pleasure of co-hosting a Bobbi Brown makeup party at Bloomingdale’s in Chicago (900 N Michigan Ave) with Yanira Garza of Manolos, Manicures, and This Mom.It was an evening filled with lovely ladies, beautiful makeup, and delicious treats.

The star of the night was the new Desert Twilight Collection for Fall 2012. Inspired by the desert sun light at dusk, this collection is filled with warm shades of pink and bronzey nudes with a pop of turquoise. Transitioning your makeup from summer to fall can often times be difficult, not with this collection. With warm plums and shimmery pink shades, with a hint of bronze, this collection makes that transition seamless.

The ladies were able to browse the collection and get their own look by one of the Bobbi Brown artists. The looks of the night varied from sultry and smoky to fun and bright. There was also some education given on skin care and finding the right skin care routine for your skin type. I have a soft spot in my heart for skin care and found myself circling that area more than a few times.

No one left empty handed thanks to the ladies at Bobbi Brown, yet a lot of us couldn’t help but pick up some extras to take home. I’m most excited about the Skin Foundation I picked up  (I’m in the color Natural 4). I’m always on the hunt for great foundations and I must say, this light to medium coverage foundation is already creeping up to the top of my list. It is definitely buildable because it feels so natural and lightweight on the skin. I love it!

It was so lovely to see some familiar faces and meet some new beautiful ladies. The night was a hit and I can not thank everyone enough for coming out to support!*

What will you be picking up from Bobbi Brown’s Fall collection?

*A special thank you to everyone at Bobbi Brown and to the Chicago Blogger Network for supporting the event as well.

Big Girl Cosmetics Makes Its Way To Macy’s

Ladies, Big Girl Cosmetics is heading to Macy’s! Homegrown right here in Chicago, Big Girl Cosmetics was born from a gift received on The Oprah show. Kiley Russell, founder and CEO of Big Girl Cosmetics, attended the taping of the infamous episode in 2010 when Oprah gifted everyone in the audience a brand new car. I’m sure the idea of cruising down Lake Shore Drive was tempting but Kiley had other plans. Kiley Russell sold that car and used the money to start her own company which we now know as Big Girl Cosmetics.

Kiley Russell: Founder and CEO of Big Girl Cosmetics touching up Natasha of

Initially, Kiley made soaps and body butters and concentrated on skin care but always had a love for makeup. When asked why she started the company she responded “When you’re an adult, you should be able to do what you want.” Amen to that! In the last seven years, Big Girl Cosmetics has been available online and in local salons, as well as Big Girl Makeup Bar and Spa in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood (also owned by Kiley Russell). This line has now found a new home in Macy’s on State St. and River Oaks Center (as well as Southlake and Glendale in Indiana).

“30 Days Of Lippy”: The Finale

We have come to the end of the “30 Days Of Lippy” challenge and I have to admit, the last 15 days proved to be much more difficult than initially anticipated. As I previously stated at the half-way point, I knew I owned a ridiculous amount of quite a few lip products. One would think a challenge like this would curb the need to purchase any more. However, I’ve discovered that I don’t own any true berry shades of lipstick nor do I own anything in gold. The fact that these are my thoughts at the conclusion of this challenge is a problem. It’s okay, you can judge me.

Just as a reminder, here were the rules:

I have to admit, I struggled a bit during the last half of the challenge (as you will see below, I used one lip product for two days). However, attempting my first ever two-toned lip and rocking a bold dark lip was so fun I’ve already tried other daring lip choices since ending the challenge. The options are endless!

Days 16 through 22 (left to right):

“30 Days Of Lippy”: The Half-Way Point

As promised, I’m back with my “30 Days Of Lippy” challenge half-way point follow up! Going into this, I knew I had a lot of lip products. That was a given. What I didn’t know, was how many lipsticks, lipglosses, lip balms I owned that are literally (yes, literally) collecting dust. Such a shame. I usually spend quite a bit of time on my eye look then grab the nearest neutral “your lips but better” lippy and call it a day. If anything, this challenge has really made me aware of all the options I have. And for that, I am thankful.

Let’s see how I’ve done so far. Do you remember the rules?

I have to tell you, choosing shades for the first 15 days was pretty simple.

The first 7 days are pictured below in order by day (left to right):

Day 1: Avon “Plump Pink”

Day 2: Revlon “Siren”

Day 3: Mac “Viva Glam Gaga 2”

Day 4: Revlon “Fire” (lipgloss)

Day 5: Nyx “Angel” (matte)

Day 6: Revlon “Lovesick” (balm stain)

Day 7: Revlon “Raspberry Pie” (lip butter)

“30 Days Of Lippy”: A Beauty Challenge

If you’re anything like me, you have more lip products than you’re able to count. From my purse, to my desk at work, and even my car…they’re everywhere! With so many lovely shades to choose from, I still find it quite easy to slip into a makeup rut and wear the same shades over and over again (hello Avon ‘Plump Pink’).

When I came across the “30 Days Of Lippy” challenge on Instagram, I knew it would be a perfect opportunity to put a little pep in my step and bring my forgotten lippys out to play.

The rules as defined by Kimberley of and Rosie of lashesandlattes. com are very simple: 30 Days, 30 shades in the following order:

Once you’ve chosen your shade as it applies to the rule for that day, snap a picture and upload it to Twitter, Facebook, or my preferred method, Instagram using the hashtag “#30DaysOfLippy.” If you aren’t comfortable snapping and uploading pictures, no worries. Simply share your favorite lipstick for that day using the same #30DaysOfLippy tag to share with others.

There are several other lovely bloggers participating in this challenge listed here (including fellow Chicagoan Vanessa of As for me, you can follow my #30DaysOfLippy challenge via Instagram (@RitaMil) and stay tuned for a half-way point follow up on Day 15.
