Who, When, What and How Much: Your Guide to the Best Thanksgiving Weekend Sales

Black Friday Small Business Saturday Cyber Monday 2015

It’s that time of year again, where we mentally prepare ourselves to either a) tackle the overzealous (and sometimes rude) crowds for discounted goods or b) post up on the computer all weekend to “add to cart” until our fingers bleed.

Navigating the sales can be a tad daunting and I’m here to help out a little bit. Below is a list of the sales you can expect to find from my favorite retailers and brands, from one end of the spectrum (mainstream) to the other (indie).

As I gain more intel throughout the weekend, I will update this post. So keep checking back in, and most importantly, Happy Shopping Thanksgiving!

Find Designer Deals at The Shopbop Friends and Family Sale

The Shopbop Friends and Family Sale kicked off yesterday and if you’re familiar with the site, you already know it’s a big deal and the perfect time to scoop up those designer wares you have been eyeing for awhile.

The beauty of Shopbop sales is that the discount typically applies to majority of the inventory. And the Friends and Family Sale is no exception. Using the code INTHEFAM25, you will get 25% knocked off your total (with only a few exclusions).

Below is a roundup a few things currently saved to my Favorites and most of them are not excluded from the sale (where’s that handclap emoji when you need it?). Feel free to click through the items to get more detail.

The sale ends Friday, October 16 at 1:59AM CST. So, act fast and more importantly, enjoy the sale!

The Shopbop Sale You Don’t Wanna Miss

shopbop sale the big event 2015

As you know, I can never pass up a designer sale. Especially when it’s from an online retailer I shop at least once a month.

Now through the end of the day tomorrow, you have a chance to take advantage of Shopbop’s highly anticipated sale. The discounts are tiered (code: BIGEVENT15) – the more you buy, the more you save. It’s the perfect opportunity to jump start your Spring wardrobe or simply spend that tax refund that’s burning a whole in your pocket.

Bargain Hunting: Designer Deals under $100 at the Fashion Outlets of Chicago

foc collage final

The old adage, “If it’s too good to be true, it probably is”, doesn’t always ring true.  Case in point: The Fashion Outlets of Chicago (FOC).

FOC has made dreams come true for the savvy bargain shopper. However, many seem intimidated by the high-end designers who have set up shop there. Fashion powerhouses such as Giorgio Armani, Burberry, Gucci, Prada, and Zegna have settled in at FOC, along with some of the most famous department store outlets such as Barneys New York Warehouse, Bloomingdale’s The Outlet Store, Neiman Marcus Last Call and Saks Fifth OFF Fifth.   Contemporary labels such as Diane von Fürstenberg, Tory Burch, Trina Turk and Vince also offer shoppers heavy discounts on many popular items (some of which are from the current season). Perhaps that’s what sets FOC apart from traditional outlets, which tend to sell mostly odds-and-ends along with the eyebrow-raising items retailers were unable to move at their original locations.

Upon our last visit there, Nikia and I were on a mission to find deals for $100 or less.  We wanted to prove to our readers (both men and women) that although many designer labels are typically out of reach for many of us, this is not always the case at the outlet.   Not only is it easy to find gems at FOC, it’s even better that you don’t have to dig for them.

Luxe For Less: The Smart Way To Shop for Designer Goods

Discounted designer shoes (Barneys NY Outlet, Fashion Outlets of Chicago)

Never. Pay. Retail.

That’s pretty much my mantra when it comes to any form of consumption, from fashion to airfare. So when Cadillac and Glam came knocking, and asked that I reveal some tips on how to achieve luxe for less, I was all too happy to obliged. Keep in mind, the operative word here is “less”, not “cheap”. If you’re looking to find Coach bags for $50 or Louboutins under $100, this probably isn’t for you, nor could I guarantee at those prices the items will be authentic. However, if you’re simply looking for ways to shop smarter, I’ve got you covered.

Now, let’s get right to it!

Coriumi: My Latest Etsy Find

If you’re familiar with Etsy, you know how the story goes. You visit the site to search for a specific item. After four hours have mysteriously gone by, you’ve already favorited (or purchased) at least twenty other items you may or may not need. That’s exactly how I discovered Coriumi.

coriumi

The handbags from this Lithuanian brand are unlike any you would ever find in your nearest retail store…thankfully. Majority of the bags are screenprinted with eye-catching images (which appears to be Coriumi’s signature) and are available in several colors.

If screenprinted canvas bags aren’t your thing, check out the all-leather patchwork goodness of the Chevron Hues Bag (a personal favorite) or the color-blocked perfection that is the Nautical Leather Tote.

The designs pretty much speak for themselves. So let’s talk affordability. Thanks to the “Christmas in July Sale” that is in full effect, the leather Geometrical Illusion Envelope Clutch comes in at a surprisingly low price of  $72. And I’m still trying to understand how the Geometrical Illusion Printed Pouch, with its relatively large size and genuine leather accents, carries a price tag of only $35. You can barely find all-canvas bags (and I mean real bags, not those small pouches some sellers try to pass off as handbags) for that amount. Plus, with those dimensions, you could even fit your iPad in there quite comfortably.

Now that I have you excited about Coriumi, go ahead and add the shop to the top of your growing list of Etsy favorites. I mean, if you’re going to spend four hours on Etsy, it doesn’t hurt to have a good starting point, right?

Friday Find: Dot Floral Pumps by Karen Millen

Friday Find showcases the item ChiTown Fashionista has become smitten with during the current week. Plus, what better way to start the weekend than with a bit of impulse shopping? It’s been a long week, you’ve earned it.

Dots. Floral. And on sale. That pretty much sums up our Friday Find this week.

Karen Millen never disappoints in the footwear department. And their End of Season Sale is the best time to shop the collection. Unfortunately, when something goes on sale, that means the most popular sizes sell out quick! So for you size 6s and 7s, today is your lucky day. Grab these statement shoes for less than a meal for two at Ruth’s Chris.

What a way to start off the summer on the right foot…literally.

Friday Find: A Film and A Store Opening You Can’t Miss

Friday Find showcases the item ChiTown Fashionista has become smitten with during the current week. Plus, what better way to start the weekend than with a bit of impulse shopping? It’s been a long week, you’ve earned it.

For this week’s Friday Find, we’re taking a break from featuring tangible goods to shine some light on a couple of experiences you should partake in over the weekend (besides the event I’m hosting on Sunday). Be warned, one of them may still lead to the purchase of a tangible good or two.

Scatter My Ashes At Bergdorf’s

I had the pleasure of attending a screening of this movie earlier this week, and have to say it is an absolute “must see” for anyone that truly loves fashion. This documentary provides viewers a clear understanding of what makes Bergdorf Goodman the destination of choice for shoppers who are not only seeking the best luxury goods, but appreciate the impeccable service and exclusivity that Bergdorf’s prides itself on.

From the storied history of the Bergdorfs and Goodmans (did you know the Goodmans lived on the top floor of the store for many years, in a 16-room apartment?) to the intensely tedious process of creating the store’s world renowned window displays, this film will make you appreciate Berdorf’s for more than just the obvious. Of course, there are a few juicy stories, as recounted by the owners, employees and designers. You’ll find out which celebrity unexpectedly purchased 70+ fur coats on Christmas Eve as gifts for loved ones and which designer was dropped by Bergdorf’s because they collaborated with JC Penney.

Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf’s opens today and will be showing at the AMC on 600 N. Michigan (if you’re not in Chicago, visit bergforf-movie.com and enter your zip code for locations and showtimes). Grab a few friends and check it out this weekend. You won’t regret it.

ULTA West Loop Grand Opening

ULTA on Halsted Interior-Exterior Photos-9

That’s right. ULTA is opening a new location in the West Loop today!

For those of you that live and work in the area, I’m sure you’ve been walking past the storefront (16 S. Halsted) in anticipation of this day.

Sure, you can visit the store whenever your heart desires. But this particular weekend, in celebration of the opening, there are deals and freebies to be had. Today through Sunday, there will be complimentary makeovers and consultations from brands like Urban Decay, bare Minerals, Murad and Philosophy, gift certificates (for the first 100 shoppers each day) and free gifts (for the first 1000 visitors over the entire weekend). That’s more than enough reason to get down there at some point this weekend.

Enjoy.

A Chicago-Style GILT Sale Launches Today

Ever wondered what a Gilt sale that caters specifically to Chicago’s fashionistas would look like? Well, today’s your lucky day.

gilt SC spring sale

Beginning at 11am CST, the Second City Spring Style event will offer up deals exclusive to Chicago members and handpicked by Gilt’s new Women’s Editorial Director, Tracey Lomrantz Lester. The selection will not only include clothing and accessories (I’ve got my eye on the Missoni umbrella ($95) and Kelsi Dagger tote ($179) shown above), but also discounts at some of Tracey’s favorite local spots for dining, pampering and even working out.

Of course a sale this special has its own link. So, make sure you visit www.gilt.com/midweststyle to access it.*

If you’re like me, you’ll be logging on to Gilt a few minutes before 11am, with your trigger finger on the keyboard (or touchscreen, if you’re mobile), to get first dibs on the goods. Just be sure to save an umbrella for me, ok?

Friday Find: Vince Camuto Perforated Drawstring Bag

Friday Find showcases the item ChiTown Fashionista has become smitten with during the current week. Plus, what better way to start the weekend than with a bit of impulse shopping? It’s been a long week, you’ve earned it.

vince camuto perforated

This week’s Friday Find comes from a designer who should be deemed as the king of affordable fashion at the moment: Vince Camuto. The level of quality he makes available at such moderate price points is quite impressive. This drawstring handbag is no exception.

With the perforated design and rich color tone*, this leather bag looks much more expensive than its $198 price tag. And with the current Friends and Family sales event going on at VinceCamuto.com, you can get it for an even better price of $175 (25% off everything with code: FRIENDS). A small amount to pay for a bag that could pretty much take you through all of Spring and Summer. Yes, I just gave you the perfect explanation for justifying the purchase to the significant other. Feel free to use it, if needed.

*For a lighter and equally beautiful colorway, click here to check out the bag in ‘Sand’ (discount not included). It’s perfect for those who aren’t accident prone, like me.
