Brows and Spring Makeup Trends with Sabrina of Beauty Babe

Spring is finally upon us (although you wouldn’t know it after yesterday’s snow storm). That means it’s time to thaw out your frozen face and get it ready for the warmer temperatures and all the new beauty trends that come with the change of season.

But where should you start?! If you’re in Chicago, that’s a no brainer.  Our new favorite go-to for all things eyebrows is Agnes O. Salon and Derma Spa (21 W. Elm Street) in the Gold Coast, where Sabrina Danyla of Beauty Babe is the resident brow magician and makeup artist.

SAIC + CB2 Launches an Innovative Home Collection

saic cb2 collage

With so many people choosing to downsize their homes and join the tiny house movement, space saving solutions are becoming more innovative and modern. When it comes to living comfortably in small spaces, who is more familiar with it (by choice or not) than a college student? That’s exactly why the newly launched collaboration with CB2 and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) is destined to be a hit.

Celebrate Galentine’s Day the Stylish Way

Rosa & The Artist Galentine's Day

Valentine’s Day. That wonderful holiday when we celebrate love with our significant others.

But what about our close friends, that we love and adore?

It has become increasingly popular to also use this time of year as an opportunity to celebrate friendships, old and new.  February 13th, which is now known as Galentine’s Day, is the day to let your girls know just how much they mean to you. If your crew is a stylish bunch, like mine, and you’re stumped on how to honor them, it’s Kalla to the rescue!

The luxury floral delivery service (which is only available in Chicago and Miami) has an impressive collection of arrangements that are perfect for Galentine’s Day, or any other special day. Once you pair their flowers with an exclusive array of artisanal chocolates by Christopher Elbow and a bottle of champagne (all available on the site),  then add in a few party favors and girl talk, you’ll have the makings of  a memorable Girls’ Night In.

Ready, Set, Blow: DreamDry Opens in Chicago

DreamDry Chicago

Chicago! DreamDry (904 W. Armitage is here, just in time to make you beautiful for all of your holiday parties or to provide the ultimate in glamorous gifts for that special fashionista on your list.

I had the opportunity to attend DreamDry’s grand opening last week, to tour the salon and to try out the services – all three left me wowed and in a dream-cloud of glamour and hairspray.

DreamDry is truly a haven for the beautiful-hair-obsessed. The gorgeous salon space is set just off the street, and nestled between the various boutiques on Armitage in Lincoln Park. Inside, the surroundings are classic and clean in black and white. Each station is set up with a luxe leather seat for you to get cozy in while you peruse the style menu on your own personal iPad. Once you choose the style of blowout you’d like, you can sit back, relax and browse your favorite fashion magazines while the stylist takes good care of you. I chose a messy and chic wavy blowout for shorter hair – the Stevie – and it lasted for three days. I loved it!

Head “South” For the Winter: 3 Reasons to Holiday Shop Roosevelt Collection

The Shops at Roosevelt Collection

If you frequent the South Loop, you can’t help but notice the many changes taking place on Roosevelt, between Clark and Canal. What was once just a new development with 300+ luxury lofts and an impressive movie theater (VIP, anyone?), has quickly become a premier shopping destination for those living south of the city’s center.

Although there is much to be said about the selection of national and local shops at Roosevelt Collection (150 W. Roosevelt Rd ), I’ve decided to break down what separates it from the pack when it comes to holiday shopping.

‘Tis the season to do more shopping in a few days than you have all year (well, for some of us). So here are just a few reasons that The Shops at Roosevelt Collection is winning during this time of year.

Thierry Mugler Les Exceptions: Redefining the Fragrance Buying Experience

When you think of Thierry Mugler fragrances, you probably think of two words: Angel and Alien – the uber-iconic scents that most beauty-savvy fashionistas have on regular rotation. But what about the exceptions to this rule? Or rather, Les Exceptions (see what we did there?). Five unisex, luxury fragrances by Mugler, just released this Fall. The Les Exceptions collection – which blends original alchemies with unique and exceptional ingredients – captures Mugler’s visionary and sensual approach to the art of perfumery.

MUGLER Les Exceptions Fragrance Collection

So what does this mean for local fashionistas? Mugler chose Chicago to be the first and only city in the U.S. to indulge in a luxurious, white glove (or in this case, black glove) experience when purchasing one of his Les Exceptions fragrances – an exclusive to Nordstrom on Michigan Ave.

Because Every Shopping Trip Needs Blacklane Car Service

Shopping trip (noun) – an opportunity to bond with friends while searching for the best deals, a new wardrobe, the perfect pair of shoes, et cetera, et cetera.

It’s also the perfect way to try out car service with Blacklane, an international limousine company that has now made its way to Chicago. A few weeks ago, I rounded up a few of my best fashion friends (a new spin on BFFs) and planned a journey to the Fashion Outlets of Chicago.

Scheduling the car in advance was quite simple. Since I had to pick up someone along the way, I chose the hourly service (you can also do Transfer service, which is ideal for direct transportation to airports or events). After filling out a few details, I was given an estimate and allowed to select my vehicle of choice. It was all done online, in less than 10 minutes.**

9:30am:    The ladies arrive at my house, where I provide them with popcorn and pralines for the trip.

10:00am:  Our driver arrives in a roomy Cadillac Escalade, giving us the best of both worlds – luxury and style.

6 Chicago-Based Etsy Shops to Bookmark Now

 Chicago Etsy

Sometimes we get so caught up in the major brands, that we forget about the indie gems sitting right at our fingertips. Finding legit, handmade goods can be a bit tedious  on Etsy (especially now that they’ve changed their policy…boo!) – though it’s always worth it in the end.

For this latest roundup of bookmark-worthy Etsy shops, I’ve decided to keep it local. From leather jewelry to quirky “chill pills”, here is my list of top Etsy picks, Chicago-style.

Shopping Adventures with Enterprise CarShare

Enterprise CarShareCollage Final

Multiple cars and city living. Sometimes the two don’t really mesh well with one another.

I’ve loved cars since I was a youngin’ – I have my dad and our trips to the racetrack to thank for that. Even to this day, I can tell you the make and model of a car (and sometimes the year), just from a quick glance. If I could, I would own a total of four cars: a luxury vehicle, an SUV, a “fun” car, and a convertible. Only problem with that is a) who can afford all of that? and b) where in the world would I park all of them?

Luckily, Enterprise CarShare has recently hit the Chicago market and allows me to temporarily feed my multi-car fix, with no financial burden.

When the lovely folks at Enterprise CarShare asked me to test out the service, I must admit, before I agreed, I checked out the fleet of cars available in the area. I was impressed by the wide range of vehicles, but the Volkswagen Beetle Hatchback sealed the deal.  My “fun” car wish had been granted.
