The Hottest Fundraiser this Summer…and how you can win VIP Tickets

Shedd BLU

What happens when you bring together some of the city’s most fabulous philanthropists for a night of food, fun and fireworks? One of the hottest events of the summer: Shedd BLU.

Hosted by the Shedd’s Auxiliary Board, this annual fundraising soiree will be held on July 25 and is the perfect opportunity to party hard and celebrate summer (what little we’ve had of it), all in the name of charity.

Hair Chats and Photo Snaps: It’s The #SallyTalksTexture Recap

sally collage with text

Last week, I had the pleasure of hosting one of four Chicagoland Sally Beauty Supply events promoting the Beautiful Textures and Dream Kids product lines by Strength of Nature. Both collections focus on hair manageability and natural hair styling. And did I mention they are extremely affordable? You would be hard-pressed (no pun intended) to find anything priced over $10.

Join Me for Flaunt Your Look at Sally Beauty Supply

flaunt your look sally beauty supply

Over the past few years, the number of women deciding to go natural (or rock locs) has increased significantly. Gone are the days where wearing hair in its natural state is considered unprofessional or unkempt. Now, an insane loc updo or a free-flowing ‘fro actually tends to up one’s cool factor (hello, Solange!).

I joined the natural hair movement in 2007 and never looked back. Over the past few years, it’s been quite interesting to see how various hair care brands are beginning to address our specific needs. One of the brands that has been there since the beginning (and continues to evolve) is Strength of Nature, whose Beautiful Textures and DreamKids products provide affordable solutions for cleaning, maintaining and styling natural hair. That’s why I am excited to announce that I will be hosting one of their many Flaunt Your Look events hitting Sally Beauty Supply stores nationwide!

Ready, Set, Blow: DreamDry Opens in Chicago

DreamDry Chicago

Chicago! DreamDry (904 W. Armitage is here, just in time to make you beautiful for all of your holiday parties or to provide the ultimate in glamorous gifts for that special fashionista on your list.

I had the opportunity to attend DreamDry’s grand opening last week, to tour the salon and to try out the services – all three left me wowed and in a dream-cloud of glamour and hairspray.

DreamDry is truly a haven for the beautiful-hair-obsessed. The gorgeous salon space is set just off the street, and nestled between the various boutiques on Armitage in Lincoln Park. Inside, the surroundings are classic and clean in black and white. Each station is set up with a luxe leather seat for you to get cozy in while you peruse the style menu on your own personal iPad. Once you choose the style of blowout you’d like, you can sit back, relax and browse your favorite fashion magazines while the stylist takes good care of you. I chose a messy and chic wavy blowout for shorter hair – the Stevie – and it lasted for three days. I loved it!

Celebrate Innovation in Fashion (and Garance Doré) at Fashion Forward

msi gif

Being apart of this here blogging game has afforded me with many opportunities, some of which I never would have imagined. And being asked to co-host the upcoming Fashion Forward event, at the Museum of Science and Industry, is yet another “pinch me” moment.

Fashion Forward is all about celebrating innovation in fashion. The curators have worked extremely hard, over the past few months, to bring to you some of the most breathtaking and awe-inspiring items from around the world (I got a sneak peek, so trust me on that). Not only will you be able to see how science will influence the future of fashion, but you will also be allowed to experience the innovation firsthand, through some of the interactive exhibits.

Love All Around For eDrop-Off and Christian Siriano

team eDropoff with Cristian Siriano (yes, that’s me on the far right)

Something old and something new, combined, typically symbolizes good luck for new beginnings. This may be an old wedding tradition, but certainly applies to other significant moments.

Case in point: The eDrop-Off loves Christian Siriano event, which took place last week.

The party, hosted by eDrop-Off owner, Corri McFadden,  and Christian Siriano celebrated their recent career achievements – a 10-yr anniversary and newly-established retail shop (The Collection at 1201 N. Clark St) for eDrop-Off as well as the first Chicago pop-up shop and a fragrance launch for Siriano.

Shop My Closet at the Milwaukee Blogger Bazaar

If ever you needed a reason to round up the girls for a mini road trip, I’ve got three words for you:  Milwaukee. Blogger. Bazaar.

On June 14, I will be joining eight of the area’s best fashion and personal style bloggers to sell some of the highly coveted items in our closets. Thanks to our lovely host, Livia Borger of Love Always Liv, we now have a chance to share our great finds with our readers (and anyone else who loves fashion and good deals).

I’ve already started rounding up the goods. And let’s just say, there will be plenty of shoes (23 and counting), handbags (20 and counting) and jewelry (I stopped counting) on hand. Below is a sneak peek of some of the shoes you could get your hands on at the Milwaukee Blogger Bazaar, many of which will be priced as low as $30.

Beauty Tips (and a Makeover Session) with EcoTools

EcoTools Collage Final

Want to know how to impress a beauty blogger? Give her a full day of beauty tips and makeover sessions with EcoTools.

Let’s break down the long day of fun and fabulousness, shall we?

Upon entering the magnificent space (check out this photo captured by Laurie of 312Beauty, to see what I mean), we were greeted with a layout of EcoTools entire makeup brush line. Although my face conveys otherwise (sorry, I am NOT a morning person), I couldn’t wait to try them out!

2014-04-25 09.26.10

After a lovely breakfast, we were separated into small groups. My group headed to the first stop of the day, the Spa & Lash station with the lovely (and fellow Chicagoan), Carly Cristman.

Confession: I have never applied or worn lashes before, but I have to say, it wasn’t as scary as I imagined it.

Get Radiant: Clarins Spring 2014 Collection

Let’s face it, winter was BRUTAL, Chicago.  I know it’s hard to believe (hello, 40 degrees in April), but spring is around the corner. The harsh weather of months past can have such a negative effect on our skin and it’s about time we give it a boost.

Recently, I had the pleasure of attending the Clarins Spring 2014 Collection preview at the Clarins counter in Macy’s Water Tower. With new skin care, sun care and of course, makeup products, it’s time to get radiant!

Join Me for the Tickled Pink for Bright Pink Charity Partay

We tend to keep things rather lighthearted over here at ChiTown Fashionista. Today, however, I want to share with you a charity event that supports a cause that is near and dear to so many of us.

I think we all agree that breast cancer is an epidemic. Nowadays, it’s nearly impossible to find someone who has not been impacted, directly or indirectly.  Tickled Pink is an annual event that celebrates the lives of those affected by breast cancer and has raised more than $1,000,000 to support breast cancer initiatives since its first party in 2005.
