Design School(ed) with Archer Townsend

The Design School(ed) series continues with James Townsend and Brandi Archer of Archer Townsend. This newly launched brand will change the way you shop for casual clothes. The incorporation of soft and luxurious knits makes their collection not only easy to wear, but also long lasting.  Add in their use of color and print, and you’ll see exactly why Archer Townsend is everyday wear that makes a statement.

James believes that “true sophistication comes from the way people dress on their ‘off’ days”  It’s one of the many lessons you’ll learn after watching this video.

Get ready to take notes. Class is now in session!

Design School(ed) with Archer Townsend

In terms of Chicago fashion, Archer Townsend is one the newer kids on the block. As a collaborative effort between stylist, James Townsend, and his longtime client, Brandi Archer, Archer Townsend is seeking to change how we view casualwear. They focus on creating clothes with a sense of coolness, all while utilizing luxurious fabrics sourced right here in the U.S. James is the yen to Brandi’s yang, and their distinct personalities creates the perfect balance of style and sensibility.

The design duo sits down with our guest correspondent, Kari of Chicagoings.com, to school us on the importance of keeping the entire design process in Chicago, the void they plan to fill in the fashion industry and who they would love to see rocking Archer Townsend.

Of course we threw them for a loop with the ChiTown Shakedown! Watch closely as we find out their drink of choice, who needs to brush up a bit on their knowledge of football and who prefers Smashing Pumpkins over Kanye West.

Design School(ed) with Shernett Swaby of SWABY

schooled (sko͞old):
Educated or trained in a specific activity or in a particular way.

The Design School(ed) series continues with Shernett Swaby of SWABY and Model 29. It’s been almost four years since our first encounter at the Randolph Street Market and my SWABY handbag is still in heavy rotation. Shernett takes pride in the fact that she has full control of her SWABY collection – there’s no outsourcing whatsoever. She marches to the beat of her own drum and has managed to stay true to her design aesthetic while still creating sellable garments.

There is much to learn from Shernett, especially with her extensive fashion background. So, let’s get into it, shall we?

Design School(ed) with Shernett Swaby of SWABY

Toronto native, Shernett Swaby, is the creative genius behind SWABY. From origami folds to exaggerated flowers, Shernett uses unique details and textures to create a point of interest on every design (which are all made with her own hands, by the way). Shernett sits down with our guest correspondent, Kari Herrera of Chicagoings.com, to school us on her Project Runway Canada experience, the importance of creating her designs in-house, and what inspires each collection (including her diffusion line, Model 29).

Our “ChiTown Shakedown” segment is sure to result in a few laughs as Shernett shows us just how much of an independent thinker she is. Yes, she kept it really real with us. And that’s exactly why we deem her not only as one of the most talented designers in Chicago, but also the most grounded.
