Closet Conversations with Brian and Autumn Merritt (aka Sir and Madame)

Today, I am excited to announce the release of Closet Conversations with Brian and Autumn Merritt. You may know them as the husband and wife team behind Sir and Madame. Now, you will get a glimpse inside the wardrobe of one of Chicago’s flyest couples, which includes everything from amazing thrift finds and vintage Gucci to Chanel boots, Comme des Garçons and of course, some of the most popular Sir and Madame merchandise to ever hit the market.

We’re not reinventing any wheel…just throwing some nice rims on it.

This is the first Closet Conversations episode featuring a duo and it’s a fashionable tag team of sorts. Brian and Autumn reveal the intriguing stories behind their most coveted wardrobe items and what makes Sir and Madame the force it is today.

The end result? You will walk away with a newfound affinity for them, both as a couple and as a brand. Oh, and you’ll want to raid their closets. I certainly did.

The soundtrack was provided by Extra Medium, one of the dopest production duos in music right now. Special thanks to my music editor, DJ HasH, for making that happen. And as always, shout out to Media Elixir for the visuals.

Closet Conversations with Brian and Autumn Merritt – TEASER VIDEO

Closet Conversations is back and in full effect!

This time around, we are featuring a duo. And yes, they are dynamic. As the masterminds behind the Sir and Madame brand (and co-owners of the store bearing the same name), Brian and Autumn Merritt don’t simply enjoy fashion. They live it.

|YouTube version here|

Want to find out which one of them is obsessed with Japanese street style? Or which one prefers high-end brands over vintage (this may surprise you)? What about the story behind why Autumn continues to rock Chuck Taylors covered in black paint? Or why we think Brian could teach the fellas a thing or two about gift-giving?

All will be revealed when we release the full length episode on August 1, 2013.

Get. Ready.

It was such a pleasure filming Eva Daiberl! She is such a natural when it comes to the camera. Plus, I was lucky enough to partake in some of her delicious banana pancakes during the shoot. Yum.my.

This new season of Closet Conversations also brings a new film crew. Shouts to Media Elixir for taking Closet Conversations to the next level!

Friday Find: Fela Kuti and Grace Jones T-Shirts by The Original David

Friday Find showcases the item ChiTown Fashionista has become smitten with during the current week. Plus, what better way to start the weekend than with a bit of impulse shopping? It’s been a long week, you’ve earned it.

I learned about The Original David while filming Closet Conversations with Dwamina Drew of Enstrumental Clothing. After seeing his collection of The Original David gear, I went home and immediately jumped on the site – which subsequently lead to me purchasing the “Rule 4080″ shirt (which pays homage to Hip Hop group A Tribe Called Quest) for hubby. Now I think it’s time for me to add some of The Original David goodness to my own wardrobe.

The Fela and Grace Jones shirts are at the top of my list. The former is a colorful tribute to the undeniable king of Afro Beat, while the latter celebrates the strength and beauty of the statuesque goddess we all know and love. Both incorporate two of The Original David’s signatures: 3-D design and mixed media (i.e. felt, vinyl, printed jersey). Pretty creative, right?

I’m off to decide which shirt to buy first. In the meantime, let me know which one is your favorite.

The Closet Conversations Outtakes: Snafus and Dance Moves

We had such a great time while shooting Season 1 of Closet Conversations, that we had to share a few of the funnier moments. We featured four outstanding style stars in the first season, but two of them, in particular, provided the most comic relief. From Redgi’s fashion-related ramblings about Gap and Frank Ocean to Flavia’s blunt honesty regarding the comfort (or lack thereof) of her Louboutins, these outtakes will have you laughing out loud…literally.

Special thanks to Lindsey Korth (videographer, editor, director) and DJ HasH (music editor) for helping to bring my idea to life! And loads of gratitude to Sally Schwartz, Dwamina Drew, Redgi Woods and Flavia Borges for allowing me to raid their homes and closets for Closet Conversations’ first season.

Filming for Season 2 will start in the coming weeks. So…GET. READY.

P.S. To catch Closet Conversations when it’s hot off the press, make sure you subscribe on YouTube (here) or Vimeo (here).

Closet Conversations (Episode 4) – Flavia Borges

Be crazy. Be yourself. Be stylish on your own right.

Episode 4 of Closet Conversations is HERE! As mentioned in the teaser post, this will be the last episode of 2012. Don’t fret though. I plan to bring you more closets of my favorite local style stars in 2013. So stay tuned and subscribe to the ChiTownFashionTV YouTube channel to be notified of new episodes (and catch up on old ones).

Flavia Borges is a freelance writer and the creator of LuluAbroad.com. Not only is she a Brazilian beauty, but she also has the warmest personality. Her closet tells the story of her Brazilian background (and the finds from all of her trips back home) and her love for designer goods (hello, Vivienne Westood + Melissa shoes). She has become one of my favorite personal style bloggers, in Chicago and beyond. And I guarantee this video will have you just as enamored with her – and her wardrobe – as I am.

And just in case you didn’t know, Flavia is also an aspiring actress and songstress. So, of course I asked her to provide some songs for her video soundtrack. You can hear her voice on the covers of “You Gotta Be” and “We Found Love”. Pretty sweet, right?

All other music obtained at jewelbeat.com.

Closet Conversations TEASER (Episode 4) – Flavia Borges

This month I will be releasing the fourth and final Closet Conversations video of the year. With the new addition to the family (hey, MJ III) and the upcoming holiday months, I think it’s the perfect time to end the first season. But don’t fret. Closet Conversations will be back with more local style stars at the beginning of next year.

Below is a sneak peek of Episode #4, which will probably be a favorite among my fellow “girly girls”. Stay tuned for the full feature at the end of this month!

EPISODE 4: Flavia Borges

Flavia Borges is a freelance writer and the creator of LuLuAbroad.com. This Brazilian-beauty has only been in Chicago for a short time and is already taking the local blogging scene by storm. With her love for mixing high-low wardrobe items and her penchant for color, Flavia’s closet is filled with many desirable goods. Brands range from Balenciaga to H&M and some of her best finds were discovered in the vintage stores of Wicker Park and the markets in Brazil. This fashion-loving writer, singer and YouTube phenom is the true definition of beauty and brains. However, it is her free spirit, charm and captivating accent that will have you intrigued with the woman behind all that amazing style.

Closet Conversations (Episode 3): Redgi Woods

It’s better to be a first rate version of yourself, rather than a second rate version of anyone else.

Welcome to Episode 3 of Closet Conversations!

Redgi Woods is the founder and designer behind the ReFINDefined line. His styling background, coupled with his insane ability to remix vintage pieces into modern-day masterpieces, makes for a an interesting wardrobe and an intriguing narrative. His  inspirations include designer Patrick Kelly (look him up NOW if you’re not familiar) and  Jimi Hendrix, which explains his innate desire to rebel when it comes to designing. (Translation: He never sees anything as is and constantly transforms garments into something completely different)

Redgi believes that every moment is an opportunity to dress up and express yourself through fashion. And, boy, does he have fun doing it!

Special thanks to beatmaker extraordinaire, Shade Cobain, for providing the soundtrack.

Closet Conversations TEASER (Episode 3) – Redgi Woods

I am so excited to share with you the teaser for the upcoming episode of Closet Conversations!  This video series is truly a labor of love and my goal is to bring you into the world (and closets) of the best style stars in the city.

Here is a sneak peek of Episode #3. Stay tuned for the full feature which will be released the week of September 24.

EPISODE 3: REDGI WOODS

Redgi Woods is a stylist extraordinaire and the man behind the ReFINDefined brand. As a fashion rebel, Redgi is known for transforming vintage items into fresh and modern designs that, at times, serve a dual purpose. Nothing is never as it seems. His design approach is also prevalent within his own wardrobe, which is a sartorial trip back to the future.
