Free Beauty Classes: Yet Another Reason to Love Sephora

sephora beauty classes

We all know that a purchasing a new makeup product is the cheapest way to freshen up your look each season. Unless, of course, you are buying said product from Sephora.

Sephora has a way of convincing you that your entire beauty and makeup arsenal is subpar and needs a complete do-over. I can’t even tell you the amount of times I’ve went in to make one purchase and ended up leaving with a bag full of things I “needed”. With so many brands and interactive tools under one roof (not to mention the fact that they always give samples upon request), Sephora is also the best place for trying out new skincare products and fragrances.

And as if they didn’t already meet all of our beauty needs, Sephora is now offering complimentary classes! Finally, we can learn how to apply all that makeup piling up in our drawers,  like a professional.

Revealing: What Makes Me Look and Feel My Best

 feel your best main 3

When it comes to looking and feeling your best, wardrobe plays a major role. But what about those little things we do to rejuvenate our minds (and bodies), boost our self esteem or put us in a good mood? Not only do they impact how we present ourselves to the world, but also how we treat others.

Here are just few of the routine things that help me reach my best self when life, sometimes, doesn’t seem to allow for it.

Beauty Tips (and a Makeover Session) with EcoTools

EcoTools Collage Final

Want to know how to impress a beauty blogger? Give her a full day of beauty tips and makeover sessions with EcoTools.

Let’s break down the long day of fun and fabulousness, shall we?

Upon entering the magnificent space (check out this photo captured by Laurie of 312Beauty, to see what I mean), we were greeted with a layout of EcoTools entire makeup brush line. Although my face conveys otherwise (sorry, I am NOT a morning person), I couldn’t wait to try them out!

2014-04-25 09.26.10

After a lovely breakfast, we were separated into small groups. My group headed to the first stop of the day, the Spa & Lash station with the lovely (and fellow Chicagoan), Carly Cristman.

Confession: I have never applied or worn lashes before, but I have to say, it wasn’t as scary as I imagined it.

Lap of Luxury: The Peninsula Spa Experience

The Peninsula Spa, located on the 19th and 20th floors of The Peninsula Hotel, is noted as one of the best spas in Chicago. Before I share with you what was undoubtedly the most lavish facial I’ve ever experienced, let me breakdown what happened pre-facial. I was invited to scope the place out and let me just say, I forgot I was still in Chicago.

The half-Olympic sized pool is surrounded by floor to ceiling windows that look out onto the city of Chicago. It’s absolutely breathtaking. With any two hour service, guests are given full access to the pool and are invited to take advantage of other amenities such as pool service. Anyone who knows me, knows I’m about that pool life (as the kids say). Now I can play Summer, even when there’s snow on the pavement!  Seriously, it looks and feels like a vacation.

Get Radiant: Clarins Spring 2014 Collection

Let’s face it, winter was BRUTAL, Chicago.  I know it’s hard to believe (hello, 40 degrees in April), but spring is around the corner. The harsh weather of months past can have such a negative effect on our skin and it’s about time we give it a boost.

Recently, I had the pleasure of attending the Clarins Spring 2014 Collection preview at the Clarins counter in Macy’s Water Tower. With new skin care, sun care and of course, makeup products, it’s time to get radiant!

Day to Night: My Perfect Skin Care Routine

With so many products available, finding a skin care routine that fits your needs can seem daunting. Not to mention the effect the allure of new products, promising the world, has on your wallet. As frustrating as it may be, finding a routine that works for you takes time and patience. The truth is, we don’t allow the amount of time it takes for the lotions and potions to work their magic. If we don’t see quick results, it’s on to the next one.

Though I’m aware that everyone’s skin is different, I am happy to say I have nailed down the perfect routine. There is something to be said for the girl who’s tried everything to finally have a routine, 6 months strong!

1. Cleanser*: Mario Badescu Acne Cleanser & a Clarisonic cleansing brush. This acne cleanser is very gentle and does not dry out my skin. Deep cleaning your pores prevents excess oil from becoming trapped under your skin, which equals fewer breakouts. This combination has helped with just that.

Sidenote-You can achieve similar results using a washcloth or facial brush. I believe daily use of my Clarisonic is the reason the texture of my skin has improved, dramatically.

Timestamp: A Day of Pampering at Studio Within

I recently had the pleasure of taking in a full spa day in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood. I’m talking the works! Needless to say, I was looking forward to a day of pampering and relaxation. But I received so much more! Eco-friendly, vintage-inspired décor and five-star customer service; this hidden gem warrants a visit!

Here are the deets on my spa day at Studio Within Salon and Spa:

10:50 a.m. With promise of snow (thanks Tom Skilling), I head to the window to find a snow-covered car and the snow is STILL falling. Great. *eye roll*

11:00 a.m. The car is cleared and I am on the move, leaving myself plenty of time to get through this snow and find parking.

11:44 a.m. So about that extra time… I am now trudging through the snow, attempting a power walk since I’ve parked a million miles from my destination (OK, it’s five city blocks. Still). I am going to be late. UGH. Thanks, Chicago.

11:49 a.m. I just walked in four minutes late, apologizing to the receptionist. After introducing myself, she greets me with such a bright smile, I instantly feel welcome. I take a seat in the nearest repurposed, vintage barber chair (how cool is that?!) and take it all in.

Two Local Spots Redefining the Spa Experience

We’re noticing a trend in Chicago. Spas inside of salons as well as some other unexpected places. Nowadays, it’s not uncommon for you to get a massage and facial immediately following a blowout or even a teeth cleaning. Recently, Rita and I paid a visit to two multi-purpose establishments that are redefining the spa experience. Not only do they focus on wellness and relaxation, but they also cater to our cosmetic needs. How’s that for killing two birds with one stone?
